Person Chosen- Aldon
ReplyDeleteStrength: He maintains good body posture and keeps eye contact with the person he his conversing with, he is also an active listener, this is important as it is a sign of respect to the person he is listening to as well as a sign of sincerity when he is speaking to someone else.
Weakness: He has many ideas, but has problem speaking fluently, he pauses many time in his sentence, it shows the lack of confidence in his ideas, it is also a sign of nervousness. People might question your confidence in what you are presenting.
Yoshika
I disagree about Aldon lacking confidence in his ideas. He just spoke slower and was finding the right words for his idea, as his content was very relevant. Speaking slowly doesn't mean that you're not confident about your idea.
DeleteOng Xin Wei
Aldon
ReplyDeleteStrengths – Content information
It is noticeable that Aldon attempts to answer industry-specific questions even when he is surprised by the questions asked. When attempting, Aldon also gives appropriate answers. Besides that, Aldon also asks relevant questions to both Cynthia and Derrick during the conversation.
Weakness – Non-verbal
Aldon is not dressed appropriately for a formal business event. The watch he wore is not suitable for such events. Besides that, Aldon also does not demonstrate attentive listening and take turns to speak. There are times when Cynthia is supposed to speak up but Aldon snatched her chance instead.
Pang Yong Xin
I disagree that Aldon was not dressed appropriately for the event, they are attending a business conference, not a formal business meeting with other people, for this event, a full suit is not required
DeletePerson chosen - Cynthia
ReplyDeleteStrength: She uses appropriate body language and hand gestures. She also included her job position and revealing that she hopes to work from home into the conversation. Her language and tone was good too.
Weakness: She did not answer questions appropriately. She drifted off to talk about unrelated stuffs about herself.
Leong Jie Li
I disagree about her drifted off to talk about unrelated stuff. I think that her answer she give are too brief, she could have further elaborated about her subject, that's why it seems that she did not answer the questions appropriately.
DeleteFong Min Wei
I disagree with the appropriate body language.
Delete7:13 was seen as impolite when she swing her hand outwards at derrick and said "so ya.. you have my namecard.." (which showed negative body language)
-Oh Wei Zhen
Derrick
ReplyDeleteStrength - He is a very confident speaker, he does not hesitates when he speaks and his tone is just right. He also keeps the conversation going by asking Cynthia and Aldon questions and speak of his ideas.
Weakness - Sometimes, he shows a negative body language. He rubs his chins and sometimes, he places his hand on his chin while listening to the others talking.
Ful Name : Cheong Kai Jie
DeleteI disagree that Derrick rubbing his chin or placing his hand on his chin while listening to others was a rude gesture. It may be while listening to others, Derrick was curious or thinking about that issue because when curious or thinking hard, people tend to rub their chin.
DeleteDerrick.
ReplyDeleteStrength: He takes the initiative to keep the conversation going by asking relevant questions and kept his answers in a straightforward manner as well as answer to questions in fluent english. This is very good as he moves the entire conversation on so he can continue to look for the next topic to speak about when Aldon and Cynthia replies.
Weakness: Body Language, His movements at around 6:16 shown that he moves his body around unnecessarily. Also, his hands move a bit too much and he held onto the name card and fling it around as he speaks. He also kept his hands up mostly throughout the conversation, he should put it down when there isn't a need for him to communicate.
Oh Wei Zhen
I disagree with you on the part where he kept his hands up mostly throughout the conversation. Keeping his hands up may show a sign of interest or that he is thinking about what the two other party had just said. There is also a probability that it is his habit.
DeleteLeong Jie Li
Derrick
ReplyDeleteStrength - He is able to ask relevant questions and respond appropriately to questions. His content information is good and he is a fluent speaker. He is able to present his information in an interesting manner and this captures people’s attention. He knows how to keep the conversation going and gets others to talk.
Weakness - He dominates the conversation. The topic that he keeps going on about only revolves around him. He focuses a lot about his project and keeps talking about it. He did not give others much of a chance to speak and explain about their own problems or business plans.
Yanting
I disagree that the topic only revolves around Derrick. Aldon and Cynthia managed to talk about their own problems. Aldon felt that it was a hassle to travel overseas for business meetings as it reduces the time spent with his company, while Cynthia was not very fluent in using technology.
Delete^^^ Soh Wan Ting
DeleteI disagree that he did not provide the chance for others to talk as he instead asked them several questions to include the both of them into the conversation.
DeleteThng Jing Yee
Aldon
ReplyDeleteStrength: He attempts to collaborate business with Derrick. He tried his best to appear confident even though he spoke slower. The content of his speech is very relevant and he maintains eye contact with others very well.
Weakness- He showed some rude gestures by pointing his fingers as he was talking. People could get offended. He does not prompt much questions.
Ong Xin Wei
I disagree with you about Aldon making rude gestures. I feel that he is not pointing his fingers at people and it is just his hand gestures.
DeleteCheong Kai Jie
I disagree about Aldon making rude gestures as those might just be hand movements of his when he is talking and it might be a habit. He did try to talk and ask questions but was mostly cut off by the others.
DeleteYanting

ReplyDeleteDerrick
ReplyDeleteStrengths: He is a very confident and relaxed speaker. He also shows good listening skills. He is great in continuing the conversation and frequently asks questions to allow others a chance to talk. He has a lot of content and plays out his role very well. He also shows good body language.
Weakness: There were some unnecessary body movement in the video and when Aldon was talking to him, he fidgeted a bit too much by moving about and touching his glasses which seemed rude. He also holds on to a business card in his hand and does not keep it.
Travis Tan Jing Wen
I disagree with you about Derrick touching his glasses which seems rude. It might be that he glasses are loose and he has to push his glasses back up. It doesn't seems like a rude gestures, it just like a normal thing a person would do if he felt like his glasses are dropping and would want to adjust it so that he could talk more comfortably.
DeleteGenevieve Sng Jing Hann
Derrick
ReplyDeleteStrength:
Derrick greets Aldon with a firm handshake. Maintain a positive tone of voice throughout the conversation and engages Aldon and Cynthia in conversation by asking related questions. He is also able to fill people in with his knowledge on IT. He also uses appropriate hand gestures when he is talking this can get the attention of the people he is talking to.
Weakness:
Derrick did not greet Cynthia with a handshake. He was holding onto the name card and uses it to point at the others while talking. At certain point of the video, he shows negative body posture, such as; folding his arms and stroking his chin.
Lim Wei Sian, Esther
I disagree with your stand that by Derrick stroking his chin during the conversation is a negative body posture. However, i thought that he is just using his body language to show that he is showing interest to what the speaker is saying.
DeleteDerrick
ReplyDeleteStrengths: He is a very fluent speaker who did not stutter much in the conversation. He maintained very good eye contact with both Aldon and Cynthia during the conversation as he would occasionally glance over to Aldon for a few seconds, and then to Cynthia, and back to Aldon again during the time he was introducing them to his product. He displays interest to the other speaker when they speak.
Weakness: During the whole time, most of the conversation tend to only evolve around himself. He kept talking and the other two parties only asked a few questions and shared little about themselves as Derrick was speaking most of th time. Also, there was a point where he kept fiddling with the cards he had in hand and he occasionally touched his chin and glasses with his hands folded across his chest. He should have placed his hands down by his side.
Jerelyn Ho
I disagree that 'he should have placed his hands down by his side. I feel that it is okay to move your hands to express your ideas. Also, I feel that it was not Derricks fault that the other two parties did not share more about themselves as Derrick was already prompting them with questions so they could speak more.
DeleteAmanda Chua Hsin Ying
Cynthia
ReplyDeleteStrengths-- She uses appropriate body language( eg. open arms) when she is answering or proposing an idea. She do take turns to talk during the conversation, when its her time to share something she talks but when its others turn to share she listens well. Also, she is very attentive, as can be seen she give her full attention by turning her body and looking at whoever is speaking.
Weakness-- During introductions, she only exchange her business card but did not shake hands with Derrick. Mostly, she does not take the initiative to lead the conversation or join unless she is being questioned bu another party.
Lim Hui Ching
Derrick
ReplyDeleteStrength:
He carries out the conversation very smoothly by introducing himself first, adding some small talks to keep the conversation going. I think he is able to keep the conversation going so smoothly was that he seems to be quite knowledgeable in his topic, making him to have more things to say. Also, he uses an enthusiastic tone to communicate, and he maintains eye contact with Cynthia and Aldon.
Weakness:
He seems to be dominating the conversation which is making the other people, Cynthia and Aldon seems like they spoke quite little as compared to him.
Fong Min Wei

DeleteDerrick is not dominating the conversation. There are plenty of chances for both Cynthia and Aldon to speak up during the video but they did not make use of the opportunity provided
DeletePang Yong Xin
Derrick
ReplyDeleteStrengths:
When he speaks, his tone is just right and he projects his voice very well. When he is explaining he makes eye contact with both parties and he carries the conversation. Derrick made sure that during the conversation, he had completed all his objectives without being too straightforward. He also tries to engage both parties throughout the conversation. He also nods when someone is speaking to show that he's listening and interested.
Weakness:
Instead of just putting the name card away, derrick held the name card throughout the conversation and even waved it around. He seems to dominate the conversation and sometimes interrupts the other party midway through hie/her speech.
Amanda Chua Hsin Ying
Cynthia
ReplyDeletestrengths:
she is able to maintain eye contact with the speaker at the same time she would momentarily look around to the other side to include the other party into the conversation
weakness: she was unable to deliver her backstory proficiently, she was rather unclear about her job scope and was unclear about what a marketing director does. when asked about her line of work she was unable to provide relevant answers to the questions.
Thng Jing Yee
Aldon
ReplyDeleteStrengths:
He is clear about his given role (freelance consultant) and is able to answer questions directed to him. Also, he is attentive and keeps eye contact throughout the conversation. It is noticable that from 2:30 onwards in the video, Aldon's answer expanded out to his personal problems (less time with family) allowed the conversation to progress even further to allow Derrick to develope his character (introduction of his new project).
Weaknesses:
Aldon is unable to string his words together and tend to make long pauses. Not only that, his pronunciation and the way he phrases his sentences is pretty broken. Also, some of the business terms he used were wrong.
Soh Wan Ting
Derrick
ReplyDeleteStrengths:
He is a very confidence speaker who speaks proper English. He is an active listener, and whenever the others talked in the conversation, he would nod and agree with it or shows that he is listening to what they are saying. He also kept eye contact with others when they are talking. He kept the conversation going and has a great knowledge and information of what he is doing. He also kept his hand to him when others are talking and shows good hand gestures like when he is asking some one a question he would move his hand towards that person, indicating that he is talking to him or her.
Weaknesses:
He has a bad body posture like hunching back and he didn't keep the business card away, waving it around when he is doing hand gestures and talking. He also seems to be dominating the conversation, not giving others a chance to finish what they are talking or to let them talk.
Genevieve Sng Jing Hann
I disagree that he has bad body posture, i didn't feel that derrick was hunching his back, it could just be the way he stands. And i felt that though he talked the most he wasn't dominating the whole conversation because he did asked questions for the other parties to answer like "what do you think about skype" these are questions that others could elaborate on hence the conversation was flowing nicely and smooth
DeleteDerrick
ReplyDeleteStrengths:
Derrick is able to keep the conversation going with his questions and he is knowledgeable of what he is speaking. He knows his business jargon well and is able to express his stages of his project like someone who is really on the project. Besides, he is able to express himself with ease which made me feel that he is really comfortable with his role. He also shows he is attentive to the other two speakers by acknowledging them with occasional nods and by asking them questions. His hand gestures throughout the conversation shows that he feels natural speaking with 'strangers'.
Weaknesses:
One point which I observed from Derrick throughout the conversation is that he does not keep the name cards he exchanged with Aldon and Cynthia. I also could not hear him introduce his position clearly which made me have some difficulty identifying what he is supposed to do.

DeleteCynthia's strength
ReplyDeleteCynthia was attentive during the whole conversation, nodding her head as a signal of understanding and agreeing as the other speakers were speaking. She also responded appropriately to the questions that the other speakers asked.
Cynthia's Weaknesses
However, during the first part of the video around 1:40 when Aldon was talking, Cynthia was frowning the whole time and it came off as being rude to the speaker.
However, after the conversation flowed further she did not frown anymore. There were also a few times Cynthia wanted to ask question but she was either not quick enough or back out.
Vanessa Lin
I personally feel that Cynthia was not really frowning at Aldon but instead she was trying to understand and relate to what he was saying as the message Aldon was trying to bring across at around 1.40 was unclear and he paused a lot. It is normal for a person to be puzzled and try to understand what another person is trying to say when we do not really get their point.
